Leaders and environmental coordinators from across the Buganda Kingdom have undergone training on environmental conservation, sanitation and clean water management in a programme aimed at improving livelihoods and sustainable resource use.
The training session was organised by the kingdom in partnership with Community Integrated Development Initiatives and held at Bulange Mengo, the kingdom’s main administrative headquarters.
The session was officially opened by the Minister for Information, Mobilisation and Spokesperson of the kingdom, Israel Kazibwe Kitooke, who emphasised the need for proper planning and sustainable water management among the Kabaka’s subjects.
“Our people must have well-structured plans for harvesting and storing water to support irrigation and ensure productivity during dry seasons,” Kitooke said.
He also highlighted the importance of clean water and food security in driving socio-economic development.
“Clean water and sufficient food are key pillars in improving livelihoods and achieving sustainable transformation,” he added.
The training was attended by Hajjati Aphwa Kaawaase, Chairperson of the Board for Environment and Sanitation in the kingdom, as well as the kingdom’s Environment Coordinator, Teddy Nabakooza Galiwango, among other stakeholders.
Organisers said the initiative is intended to strengthen environmental conservation efforts, improve sanitation standards and enhance sustainable agricultural practices across the various counties of the kingdom.
They noted that empowering community leaders with knowledge and practical skills is critical to addressing environmental degradation, improving hygiene practices and ensuring sustainable management of water resources.
